“That ye may be
blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a
crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.” Philippians 2:15
The Validity of
our witness will be shown in how we live our lives in the midst of crooked and
perverse nations full of darkness. If our witnessing must be effective, the
world must see the changed lives in us. Darkness cannot affect darkness; it
takes light to drive the darkness away. Jesus said… "you
are light for the world. A city cannot be hidden when it is located on a hill…
let your light shine in front of people. Then they will see the good that you
do and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 GW. We cannot but shine as light as we mirror Jesus Christ in
our daily lives. Be light and the
darkness is pushed back. Be light before men, so they see your good
deeds. Your good works point others to God.
A valid witness must
show by his life that which he testifies before the people, it involves your whole life, not just your words. The effective witness for Christ will live
his/her life above reproach in the power of the Holy Spirit, whose fruit we
exhibit when we abide in Christ (John 15:1-8, Galatians 5:22-23).
"You are salt for the earth. But if salt
loses its taste, how will it be made salty again? It is no longer good for
anything except to be thrown out and trampled on by people.” Matthew 5:13
Salt that has not lost
its taste (meaning not mixed with impurities of the earth before use) has two
functions; it works as manure, which encourages the growth of good
things and as a disinfectant, which inhibits the growth of bad
things. We, therefore, must endeavour to walk in the newness of our minds daily,
free of impurities which makes us lose value and invalidates the gospel of Christ
in our lives and in our witnesses for Him daily.
It is also important
to draw out from Matthew 5:13 that salt does not have its effects on the earth
without contact with it. We are to reach out to the dying world in love so as
to witness to them effectively. Jesus related with sinners; He said… “I came not to call the
righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Mark 2:17 KJV.
Jesus Christ’s last command to the Church was to make disciples Matthew 28:19-20). This command, which the Church calls the Great Commission, was not intended merely for the eleven remaining disciples, or just for the apostles or for those in present times who may have the gift of evangelism. It is the responsibility of every man and woman who professes faith in Christ as Lord. We are called ambassadors of Christ; live the life of love, walk in His full authority (having been empowered by the Holy Spirit for the ministry of reconciliation) and speak the message of reconciliation in words and indeed. (2 Corinthians 5:14-21).

Prayer: Pray that the Lord will make our hearts burn for
lost souls and truly reach out to them; that our lives will daily draw men to Christ.
